Higher profile for Design Council
The Industrial Design Council, which was recently merged with the Testing Laboratory Registration Council (Telarc), will be taking a higher profile in future, said its director, Dr Jack Garside. Telarc plans to begin a promotional programme for the Design Mark, Design Award and Prince Philip Award in a few months. The Government ammended the Testing Laboratories Registration Act making provisions for Telarc to take on Design Council functions before promotions could begin. Criteria for the awards would be better defined, and the Design awards reendorsed as a mark of quality, designer excellence and reliability, said Dr Garside. Telarc had been involved for many years in laboratory and industrial testing of products, but the recent merger meant it now took part in product design.
