Trust short of funds

The New Zealand Roadshow Trust has been concerned that some Christchurch secondary school students could miss out on seeing Roadshow because of a possible $12,000 funding shortfall. The chairman of the trust, Dr Morgan Fahey, says that about $BO,OOO had been raised at the beginning of the Christchurch season, but more money is needed if the tour is to be completed. There were delays in some funding and other

expected sponsorship was not forthcoming. The trust has approached local authorities and the Ministry of Transport for help in making up its shortfall. “We would have hoped there could have been more community help, because it is so effective in reducing road accidents,” Dr Fahey says. There was heavy demand for the Roadshow to visit rural schools, but this had not been possible. However, it is hoped a major sponsor

can be found so that the show can do a national tour. Although some of the actors have now been offered permanent acting jobs, Dr Fahey hopes that other young people trained through the Access scheme can be used for the national tour. “It has meant job creation for these young people while at the same time they are acting as ambassadors for road safety.” The first Roadshow production toured the country in 1982 to 1983.
