Cladding claims to be in by Nov. 15
Home owners who have had problems with deteriorating Weatherside exterior cladding have until November 15 to seek compensation from the manufacturer, N.Z. Forest Products, Ltd. Weatherside was made and sold in New Zealand as a cheaper alternative to weatherboard from the late 19605, but was withdrawn in 1984 after concern about the durability of the product. A national compensation programme was launched by Forest Products and corrective work was done by independent builders on houses throughout New Zealand. Although many claims were settled after the product was withdrawn, it was important that those affected were all aware they could file a claim for compensation, said a spokesman for Forest Products, Mr Gordon Lea. Those wishing to claim compensation can do so,' only up .until November 15 this year, by writing to Weatherside Claims Group, P.O. Box 123456, Penrose, Auckland. Home owners with Weatherside cladding that has not yet shown any sign of deterioration can register their homes for inspection by independent specialists employed by Forest Products. Claims received or houses registered after the deadline will not be eligible.
