Driver’s licence photos demanded
PA Napier The Traffic Institute is demanding that photographs be put on the new lifetime driver’s licences and drivers made to carry them at all times. The institute, made up, of representatives of local' authorities, is holding its fortieth conference in Napier this week. The institute has al- • ready asked the Minister of Transport, Mr Jeffries,
to introduce photographs on the licences, but conference delegates were angered by his response. The Minister told the conference in a written reply that the photographs would be too expensive, make licences a highly regarded form of identification, thus providing incentives for forgeries for “nefarious” purposes, and there was no evidence to, suggest they would improve road safety.
