New apple press
Increased fruit production in Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury has led to the purchase of a new apple press for the Apple and Pear Marketing Board’s Nelson factory. The new press, which can process 12,000 kg of apples an hour, will double the factory’s pressing capacity, says the board’s factory manager, Mr Phil Francois. It will also increase juice yields and additional juice recovery from apple pulp. When it arrives on October 30 it will be the biggest apple press in the southern hemisphere, although it will take up less space than the board’s two existing presses—PA.
