Milk price to rise
The price of milk in Canterbury will go up on Saturday. A 600 ml bottle will cost 55 cents, a onelitre carton $l.lO, and a two-litre plastic container $2.20. Increases in the prices of raw materials and a new tax on co-
operatives had meant the price of milk had to go up, said the chief executive of Canterbury Dairy Farmers, Ltd, Mr Barry Hogan. The weakening of the New Zealand dollar had increased carton prices by 12.5 per cent, with other increases to
come, he said. New tax laws also meant increased costs as from September 1, 1988, co-operatives had to pay tax for the first time. The price of bottled milk last increased in January, 1988, by five cents a bottle.
