Canterbury District RESTRICTED FIRE SEASON THIS notice is to advise that the 1988/89 fire season In the Canterbury region commences on October 1, 1988, and runs through until April 30, 1989. As a Fire Authority under the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977, the New Zealand Forestry Corporation through Its subsidiary New Zealand Timberlands, Limited, is responsible for fire protection measures In the Rural Fire Dlstict described below. It is an offence under this Act to light a fire in or within I.skm of the boundary of the named production forests without a written permit from a Timberlands officer during the full twelve (12) months of the year. The Timberlands Rural Fire District includes the following production forestry areas, together with the peripheral I.skm fire safety margin in each case: Hanmer Forest Ashley Forest — including the Okuku pass block. Omlhl Forest. Mt Thomas Forest. Balmoral Forest — Including the Island Hills block. Eyrewell Forest. Oxford Forest (View Hill block). Mt Hutt Forest. The public are requested to report any fire they see in or endangering a production forest or a State or conservation area. Emergency fire calls may be made to Ranglora (0502 ) 8015 at any hour. Persons wishing to carry out burning operations in any area within 1.5 kilometres of the production forestry areas listed above must first obtain a permit from the appropriate office, as follows: District Office, phone Rangiora 8015. Ashley Forest (including Omlhl, Okuku and Mt Thomas Forests) — phone Rangiora 8012. Balmoral Forest (including Island Hills) phone Culverden 8003 or 8004 Eyrewell Forest (Including Oxford/Vlew Hill), phone Rangiora 25-809. Hanmer Forest, phone Hanmer Springs 7217 or 7218. The public and landowners may find that they are also within I.skm of both Timberlands and Department of Conservation areas. Advice may have to be sought from the Department of Conservation, phone Christchurch (03) 799-758. Public co-operation Is sought by N.Z.
