Under the Universities Amendment Act it is now mandatory for each University to develop an equal employment opportunities programme, covering all staff employed at the University. A Standing Committee on Equal Employment Opportunities, to be chaired by the Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (Equal Employment Opportunities and Staff Development), will shortly be formed to oversee the development of this programme. In consultation with the University’s Standing Committee on Equal Employment Opportunities the appointee will be expected to initiate and co-ordi-nate the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of and reporting on the University’s equal employment opportunity plan. Applicants must have the ability to effectively develop and impliment an Equal Employment Opportunites programme: — Commitment to the concept of equal employment opportunity and sensitivity to employment issues of concern to disadvantaged groups. — Sensitivity to the aims and aspirations and cultural requirements of the Maori people. — Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of groups and individuals both within and outside the University. — Proven analytical report writing and administrative ability. — Ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines. — A high level of initiative combined with sound and mature judgment. — A relevant knowledge of the tertiary educational environment. To this end it would be expected that applicants would possess a degree. The successful applicant will be responsible for such duties as may be necessary to implement the Equal Employment Opportunities programme. Commencing salary will be within the range $40,617 — $44,422 per annum.
