Sir Allan made life member

Sir Allan Wright has been made a life member of the North Canterbury Cricket Association on the eve of his retirement as president. He has been involved with the association for the past 25 years and has served as president since 1976. He has made an outstanding contribution to cricket in North Canterbury and was instrumental in helping to form the Minor Association in 1962. He was the first chairman of the executive, folding

that office from 1962 to 1975. Sir Allan was also the first captain of the senior representative side and capped an illustrious career by captaining the side which won the Hawke Cup from Manawatu in 1967. He served as a selector from 1963 to 1972. As well as these involvements he has served as the South Island Minor Association delegate on the board of control since 1967. He has been deputychairman of the board

and will be seeking the chairmanship this season. Sir Allan said at the annual meeting of the association that he had enjoyed the experience. “I retire with the knowledge that we have a very efficiently run organisation, one that is easily administered by a group of enthusiasts who, by their . commitment, highlight their enthusiasm and make it easier for those involved in official positions to administer and improve the role of the association,” he said.
