Rich purse lures top bowlers
NZPA-AAP Brisbane The lure of Australia’s richest individual bowls purse has pulled together an exceptional field for the reopening of the Surfers Paradise Bowls club next year. The Easter tournament, offering SNZ9I,OOO prize money, is made up of 16 hand-picked bowlers — 15 with international experience — with another four men and four women still to make it
through the qualifying rounds. The invited field is: Men: Ken Williams, lan Schuback (Qld), Barry Salter (N.S.W.), Geoff Sutcliffe (Vic.), Paul Richards (S.A.), Denis Katunarich (W.A.), Peter Lawson (Tas.), Peter Bellis (N.Z.). Women: Greeta Fahey, Edda Bonutto (Qld), Merle Richards (N.S.W.), Alison Duncan (Vic.), Audrey Hef-
ford (S.A.), Norma Wainright (W.A.), Beverly Oliver (Tas.), Millie Khan (N.Z.). Sutcliffe is the only invited bowler not to have worn a national blazer despite an impressive record for his state and in big money tournaments. The fields will be complete once qualifying rounds for the remaining eight spots are played on March 20-21.
