HORSE TRIALS ACCUMULATOR The first open horse Trial on the Hobsons Horsebox Points Prize Accumulator was held at Riccarton Racecourse on Sunday. Jane Cullen and Awatuna led the 10 horse field of the Cottage Saddlery Stubben class from start to finish. They finished on their dressage score, once again showing their ability In this tough and demanding sport. Ross Moore and Chatham, from Timaru, incurred time faults on the cross-country phase to finish second; while Vanessa Borcovsky and Golden Ribbon, from Murchison, slipped to third due to a rail down in the show-jump-ing phase. Large entries for the day ment space was at a premium on the reduced ground now available at the racecourse. Kennels Park which is sited adjacent, provided the extra distance required for the course, and was the venue for some spectacular jumping with the water and new Flutterby fences causing problems to
those not performing exactly right.
A tragic loss to Olivia Waddy and the sport occurred when Montana Lad, from Ward, struck into the far bank at the water jump, killing the horse instantly. Fortunately, Olivia was thrown clear unhurt. Despite this unfortunate accident, the day finished well, with most competitors finishing the course, and appreciating the efforts made by the N.Z.H.S. Canterbury area Horse Trials Group in building this new course. Jumping errors occurred at a variety
of jumps, with no one fence causing too many problems. The Allan Orange Manufacturing’s dressage wih jumping classes were well supported. These results were coming through while the cross-coun-try phase was underway. RESULTS Cottage Saddlery Stubben Open Horse (A.
