NZPA-Reuter Seoul The Australian women’s basketball team missed a gold or silver medal by two seconds .when beaten, 57-56, by Yugoslavia in the Olympic semi-finals. The United States crushed arch-rival the Soviet Union, 102-88, in one semi-final. In the other game Australia erased a 53-47 deficit and took a 56-55 lead on Michele Timms’ threeppointer with a minute and a half left to play but the Yugoslav defence
frustrated' Australia’s chance to clinch victory and Andjelija Arbutina scored with two seconds left. The 1.78-metre guard recovered the ball after the Australian Marina. Moffa blocked her baseline jumper and muscled in through heavy traffic to score the winning basket with two seconds left. Yugoslavia and the United States play for the gold tomorrow. The Soviets and Australians compete for the bronze medal today.
