Organ scholarship
The position of organ scholar at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament will become available next month. The scholarship provides free organ tuition and involves choir accompanying and Cathedral Masses on Sundays. The initial award will be for one year, but this may be extended, if appropriate. The Cathedral has a tradition of choral music and the regular music programme consists of one orchestral, contemporary, sixteenth-century and
Gregorian Mass on each Sunday of the month. The organ scholar will also have the use of the two pipe organs, a harpsichord and a Steinway grand piano. No previous organ playing experience is required, but applicants should have developed piano technique to about Grade 7 level. Applications close at the end of September. The Cathedral Organist may be telephoned at 384-594 for further details.
