The Auckland Wind Quintet, with New Zealand pianist David Guerin, will close the Music Federation’s International Concert Season 1988. The ensemble will begin its tour to nine centres on Monday, October 3. A Christchurch concert on October 13 and one in Nelson on October 19 are included. The Auckland Wind Quintet was formed in 1980 to present a varied programme, using the

many combinations within the group. The group often expands to include works written for larger combinations and two years ago toured New Zealand for the Music Federation. For the Auckland Wind Quintet and David Guerin’s 1988 tour the federation has commissioned a work from an Auckland composer, Christopher Blake, “Clairmont Triptych.”

The Auckland quintet consists of Christine Mori (flute), Stanley Jackson (oboe), Peter Scholes (clarinet), Philip Sumner (bassoon) and John Ure (horn). The members of the quintet are principals of the Auckland Philharmonia and tutors at the Auckland University School of Music. The pianist, David Guerin, is originally from Wellington and has studied with the Amadeus Quartet.
