Welcome at Lincoln
The Lincoln College Council has cautiously welcomed the Hawke report on post-compulsory education, and its recommendations on university organisation. Members said they were pleased to have the opportunity to make submissions, when the council met yesterday. The council welcomed the opportunity provided by the report for the college to become Lincoln University, and “building on the foundations provided by Lincoln College, to maximise its future contributions to New Zealand's economic and social welfare.” The council expressed reservations about the proposal for a tax on graduates, and the possibility that political control could be exercised over the universities under the new system. >
