Festival provides chance to learn good eating habits
The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand has decided to have a Heart Food Festival as a way of celebrating the variety of foods which make up the meals of New Zealanders and to highlight the many different kinds of food which are available to us. Parties are often given for a reason ... A wedding, a return home, or a birthday. The reason for the Heart Food Festival is that it provides an opportunity to bring food producers, manufacturers and customers together to talk about the food which is available to us and how it can help us to enjoy good health through life. It is believed that the health of many adult New Zealanders would benefit
from eating foods in which there was a little less fat, sugar, salt and more fibre than many of those eaten at present. In taking part in the Heart Food Festival some food producers and manufacturers have taken the opportunity to develop food products which contain less sugar, fat or salt than other foods in the same range. These foods will have the Heart Food Festival logo on them. The Heart Food Festival will also take place in many stores and supermarkets, restaurants, schools, airlines, industrial canteens wherever food is sold or eaten. In Christchurch the Heart Food Festival will be celebrated in several different ways. Two Food. Fairs are being held. The first one will be in Linwood City Mall on Sep-
tember 29 and 30 and October 1. The second Food Fair will be in Sydenham Mall on October 6,7, 8. At both Malls there will be the opportunity to take part in competitions and taste some of the Heart Food Festival products. There will be demonstrations of Cookery methods, foods and meals which will fit in with the spirit of the Heart Food Festival. You will be able to look for Heart Food Festival foods in the local supermarkets as well. When good friends each have a party there is often some rivalry to see who can turn on something a bit different. So while many of the activities will be the same at each mall, there is also a hint that it will be worth going to both Linwood and Sydenham to see what other competitions and activities are being held!
