World record to Matt’s Scooter

It is not only at the Olympic Games that world records have been set in the last week. Last Friday at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky, Matt’s Scooter, a three-year-old colt by Direct Scooter, ran the fastest mile ever by a standardbred. In a time trial, Matt’s Scooter recorded 1:48.8, comfortably inside the previous best of 1:49.2 run by the great Niatross in 1980 when he was a three-year-old. Matt’s Scooter, already the winner of more than SUSI. 3 million, is owned by Charles Jeurevinski, who is a shareholder in the New Zealand standardbred company, National Bloodstock, Ltd. It is believed that Mr Jeurevinski has given National Bloodstock first refusal on the colt when he is retired to stud. Matt’s Scooter is trained by Harry Poulton in New Jersey and was driven in the time trial by the Canadian reinsman, Mike La Chance.
