Fairstar to cruise Asia
A choice of four separate fly/cruises to Asia with calls to Japan, China, and Thailand head the list of new destinations for Sitmar’s cruise liner Fairstar in its 1989 “Funship Cruises” programme. The decision to include additional Asian cruises in 1989 had followed continued requests from cruise enthusiasts for the chance to visit the exotic Far East, said Sitmar’s New Zealand manager, Mr David Donelly. The 1989 programme was designed to give passengers the chance to discover for themselves the rich new experiences that only the Far East could offer. Mr Donelly said the fly/cruise fares would start from $3210 for a 25night holiday on the “Thai Java Sea Explorer” holiday departing from Singapore on November 12, taking in eight ports. He said the cruise would mark another Sitmar first, offering a unique opportunity to visit popular Penang and Phuket, with a cruise past the famed Krakatoa volcano — the scene of the most spectacular volcanic eruption in modern history. Mr Donelly said the “Exotic Japan Orient” cruise would depart from Sydney on April 29 for 27 nights and would include calls to Kobe, Yokohama, Hiroshima and Beppu, in Japan, Pusan in Korea and a 34-hour stopover in Shanghai. The extended stay in Shanghai would give
ample opportunity for passengers to take in-a variety of intriguing shore tours featuring world-ac-claimed tourist spots. Mr Donelly ■ said that even China’s famed Great Wall could be visited during a "China and Beyond” cruise during the stopover in Oinhuangdao. He said the 1989 JapanAsia fly/cruise pro-
gramme was all inclusive which meant that air fares to or from 'either Singapore or Hong Kong were included in the brochure price. In addition Fairstar will make 22 South Pacific cruises in 1989 calling at remote, exclusive island destinations in addition to the more populated, wellknown ports of call.
