Kingsman returning
PA Auckland The Olympic bronze medallist, Paul Kingsman’s, rush back to New Zealand to see a gravely ill friend and supporter was yesterday welcomed by the sick man’s wife.
“Laurie has known Paul since he was a small boy,” Rita Reed, of Glen Innes, said. Her husband, Laurie, is gravely ill in Auckland Hospital after a car accident on September 1.
Kingsman is due home on Thursday and is dashing to see Mr Reed because he did not have time to do so before leaving for Seoul. “Laurie got to know Paul really well through swimming and has known of his potential since he was a small boy,” Mrs Reed said.
Kingsman won New Zealand’s first Olympic swimming medal in 36 years, a bronze in the 200 m backstroke. He said he would bring Reed back a Olympic medal and that is what he intends doing.
