(Fifth form — history, geography and economic studies) 1 Find examples to illustrate that Japan is the “locomotive which pulls the world economy.” Keep a clipping file on articles which show the important part Japan plays in the global economy in terms of trade, aid and finance. 2 Find examples of Japanese investment in New Zealand. A recent newspaper report looked at a $3 million development ■of the Christchurch Rugby Club. This will enable Japanese players to play and train in New Zealand.
(Forms I — IV) 3 The sort of things Japanese citizens know about New Zealand include: kiwifruit, rugby (a' very popular sport in the big companies and universities), Mount Cook (Aoraki) and that this is an uncrowded land. Design a poster to encourage Japanese tourists to visit New Zealand. Find out about the things Japanese people like to do in their leisure time. 4 A Japanese pen-pal is coming to stay. Write a one-week itinerary for a visit during the Christmas holidays. 5 Graph (linegraph) the yen as it compares to foreign currencies. (Use today’s issue of “The Press.”) 6 Find other statistics about Japan in the weather map, shipping news and business pages.
