Police car destroyed
PA Gisborne Four people appeared in court yesterday charged with wilfully destroying a police car at Mahia on Thursday and have been remanded in custody to September 27. Three of the accused, aged 28, 22, and 17, appeared in the Gisborne District Court and the
fourth, aged 16, in the Children and Young Persons Court. Defence counsel, Doug Rishworth, said no application would be made for bail yesterday, but asked for interim suppression of name and for two of the accused to be given permission to attend the funeral of a man who died at Mahia on Thurs-
day. Judge Kearney said he would recommend that the authorities make arrangements for the men to attend the funeral service if it occurred while the were in custody. He also said the interim order for suppression included the relationship of the accused.
