Bail opposed for two
Two men appearing on unrelated charges of aggravated burglary were each remanded in custody by Judge Erber after bail was opposed by DetectiveSergeant R. Homan in the District Court yesterday. Richard Paul Thomas Matthias, aged 36, unemployed, is charged with having a knife in his possession while breaking into the Lite Lunch food bar on September 22. He was remanded in custody to September 30. Rueben Theodore, aged 22, also unemployed (Mr
G. R. Lascelles), is alleged to have broken into premises in Bealey Avenue while in possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody to September 28. The alleged offence took place early yesterday. 189 CHARGES Pleas of guilty would be entered next week by Brenda Lorraine Williams who faces 189 charges of fraudulently using a stolen Visa card to obtain goods and services to a total value of $10,362.
Williams, aged 25, a housewife (Mr A. N. D. Garrett), is alleged to have committed the offences during June, July and August in Christchurch. Forty-four of the alleged offences took place in one day. She was remanded on bail, which was not opposed, to September 30. COMPENSATION A woman who obtained goods and drugs, valued at $615, using a stolen Christchurch Polytechnic order form, was ordered
to pay compensation of this amount at the rate of $l5 a week. In addition Suzanne Mary King, aged 39 (Mr G. F. French), who, the Judge said, had served lengthy periods of imprisonment for offences involving drugs, was ordered to undergo a course of treatment for her drug dependence. She was also sentenced to supervision for 12 months.
