Recovery ‘miracle’
Heart-lung transplant patient Ann Crawford says her recovery from a mystery illness which hit her shortly after arriving in Britain in July is a “miracle.” The dramatic improvement in her health may now mean that she does not need a second transplant. The final decision will be made by her surgeon Mr Magdi Yacoub on October 3. However, Ann and her parents are tentatively booked to fly home on October 13.— NZPA.
Dead man named
Gisborne police have released the name of the man whose body was found in a house at the end of Thursday’s major armed offenders operation on the Mahia Peninsula, near Wairoa. He was John Hone Paul, in his mid-20s and a resident in the house. Police said he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.—PA.
Fire in car
The police are investigating a fire in Peverel Street Riccarton, which extensively damaged a parked car, about 9.30 p.m. yesterday.
