C.T.U. cries ‘enough’

PA Wellington The Council of Trade Unions believes “enough is enough” and that it is time for ordinary working people to say so, a C.T.U. executive member, Mr Kevin Bunker, says. Addressing a stopwork meeting of public servants in Wellington yesterday, Mr Bunker said people were being restructured out of work. The meeting was one of 120 called nationally to get endorsement of the Public Service Association’s call for either a flat $3O or a 7 per cent pay rise. Mr Bunker siid the C.T.U. did not oppose change or deny the need for economic and industry reform. “What we want is change that is planned, is orderly and beneficial to all, not just a few. We also want a say in economic and industry reform to ensure it is planned, orderly and beneficial.” The, market, interest rates and the value of the dollar could not be left in the hands of speculators, manipulators or market purists, he said. “We have to get our hands on the economic levers to create an environment that is not hostile to employment, equality and economic and social stability.”
