Health officer retires
The Waimairi District Council’s former chief environmental health officer, Mr Graham Manton, is planning to battle it out on the chess board instead of the council yard from now on. Mr Manton has been forced to retire early after hitting his head on the door frame of a council vehicle earlier this year. Two weeks after the accident he began suffering severe headaches and was admitted to hospital for cranial surgery. Mr Manton has worked at the council for 25 years, and was presented with a marble chess set at a farewell function yesterday.
