Public Notices PUBLIC NOTICE REVIEW OF THE ORGANISATION AND PUBLIC FUNDING OF BIOMEDICAL AND HEALTI SYSTEMS RESEARCH THE Government has com missioned a review of the or ganlsatlon and public fund Ing of biomedical and healtl systems research in New Zea land. The review will be con sidering the most approprlat institutlon(s) or mechanism for the state to foster an ap proprlate level and mix o medical and health research. The convener of the revlei committee Is Professor Davli Stewart, Dean of the Otag Medical School. The othe members are Mr Berni McKay, a management con suitant and former Head o the Australian Federal De partment of Health, and D Claudia Scott, an economls at Victoria University. The committee will con slder the role, organlsatlona design, funding arrange ments, and accountability o a Health or Medical Researcl Council, or alternative organ isation or mechanism fo public funding of blomedlca and health systems research The review will also Includi the role of other organlsa tlons which fund medical an< health research, such as thi Department of Health, publli hospitals and universities. The committee Is not looking at Individual researcl projects or at specific priorities allocated to various form: of medical or health research. The report of the review which will be published as ar authored document, Is to b( presented to the Minister o; Health In February 1989.
