Coasters to march
Protestors from Hokitika and Reefton, campaigning over the closing of hospitals in both towns, plan a march to the West Coast Hospital Board meeting in Greymouth next Wednesday. Hokitika people staged a similar march in 1985 when more than 1000 people assembled outside the board offices. The acting general manager of the hospital board, Mr Peter Kerridge, said yesterday that delegations were permitted under standing orders, and it had
been decided by the chairman, Mr David Copeland to allow leaders of the protests from both towns to address the meeting. He said that they were likely to be received about 11.30 a.m. after the adoption of the minutes of the previous meeting. Hokitika business houses were yester-' day urged to close their doors and join in the calvacade of vehicles to Greymouth for the meeting, and the protest, which has been named the “Day of Betrayal.”
