Talking about jobs
Not long ago leaving school meant getting a job, but as many schoolleavers have discovered, jobs are getting harder to find. Increased technology, market changes and the economic downturn have all cost jobs. The job market is not only tough, it is changing. Schools used to prepare students for entering the work force. The emphasis is now on preparation for further training which more and more jobs require.
“Wavelength” this week looks at education and employment. Grant Shearer backgrounds the story, with interviews with careers guidance teachers, school leavers and employers. The studio guest, the Minister of Employment and Associate Minister of Education, Phil Goff, joins “Wavelength” panelists to discuss questions from young people. “Wavelength” screens on Sunday at 5.05 p.m. on Two.
