Timaru prices

A sprinkling of lines of fine Merino in the Timaru catalogues included five bales of 17.8 micron woolly hogget from D. W. Williamson (Duntroon) which sold at 2660 c (72 per cent yield). Other leading Merino prices included 2097 c (73.3) for two bales of 19 micron from I. M. Anderson (Omarama), 1952 c (73) for seven bales of 19 micron woolly hogget from B. W. Aubrey (Twizel), and 1878 c (72.4) for 12 bales of 19.4 micron wether from Grant Brothers (Rangitata). Among Halfbreds were 10 bales of 22.4 micron woolly hogget from Estate W. B. Trotter (Fairlie) which fetched 1019 c (76.8). B. W. Aubrey sold four bales of 23.1 micron at 908 c (71.8). Three bales of 23.8 micron Halfbred woolly hogget from D. S. Scott (Kohika) made 905 c (80), and four bales of 26.2 micron two-tooth from F. S. McAtamney (Geraldine) fetched 800 c (83.2). Leading quarterbred prices included 1035 c (73.9) for three bales of 22.3 micron from Hunter Valley station (Wanaka), 959 c (69.9) for nine bales of 22.3 micron from M. M. and D. A. Keen (Waihaorunga) and 882 c (73.3) for five bales of 23.1 micron from I. M. Anderson. Leading Corriedale sales included 10 bales from Dome Hill, Ltd (Duntroon), which made 731 c (78, 26.8 micron). J. R. and F. G. Gardner (Waihaorunga) sold seven bales at 714 c (64.6, 24), D. A. Williams (Fairlie), sold eight bales at 704 c (77.2, 28), and 23 bales from Kaiwarua station (Waihaorunga) made 703 c (72.9). Romney fleece from Estate J. and M. Gregan (Geraldine), sold at 685 c (89) for 23 bales, and nine bales of Romney shorn hogget from G. D. Giles (Pleasant Point) sold at 681 c (83.5). A group lot from Wrightson of Romney shorn hogget made 678 c (89.9),

663 c (80.9) was paid for 15 bales of Romney-Coopworth cross shorn hogget from Parkhurst Farm (Geraldine), and eleven bales of Romney shorn hogget from K. A. Orange (Geraldine), made 656 c (83.6). L. R. Rolston (Ashburton), sold 10 bales of Coopworth shorn hogget at 641 c (81.4), and six bales from D. E. and M. R. Hughes (Timaru), sold at 628 c (80). Perendale fleece from D. A. Williams (Fairlie), sold at 662 c (83.6) for 16 bales of two-tooth wool, and D. J. McMurtrie (Geraldine), sold seven bales of Perendale cross shorn hogget at 655 c (84.5) Six bales of Borderdale woolly hogget from I. G. and H. E. Murdoch (Mayfield), sold at 671 c (80.5), 11 bales of Border-Romney shorn hogget from H. P. McKerchar (Cannington), made 668 c (83.5) and A. J. McConnell (Fairlie), sold nine bales of English Leicester cross shorn hogget at 655 c (81.2). Prices from the final catalogue in the Timaru sale included 1822 c (70.7) for seven bales of 19.5 micron Merino from McKenzie Brothers (Hakataramea Valley), and 1742 c (68.4) for four bales of 19.6 micron from Ben Ohau station (Twizel). Five bales of 23.1 micron quarterbred from A. T. May (Lake Tekapo), made 936 c (72.7) while nine bales of 23.6 micron Halfbred from the same vendor made 829 c (67.7) L. J. and J. B. Waters (Fairlie), sold five bales of 23.2 micron woolly hogget at 840 c (66.4), and M. W. and J. A. Simpson (Duntroon), received 747 c (75.4) for 29 bales of 25.1 micron. Forty-one bales of crossbred from Glengyle Partnership (Mayfield), made 599 c (90.3), and 27 bales of crossbred two-tooth from B. W. Quantock. (Anama), sold at 650 c (84.3).
