Recital by soprano A soprano, Wendy Dixon, will give a recital in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre at 1.10 p.m. on Friday. Works to be performed in the recital include the VillaLobos for Soprano and violin with Richard Panting, Strauss Songs for Soprano and Barber Songs for Baritone to be sung by a baritone, Donald Lister. Christchurch audiences last saw Dixon sing the role of Gilda’ in the Canterbury Opera’s recent production of “Rigoletto”. She is in New Zealand to sing the role of Rosalinda in Canterbury Opera’s production of “Die Fledermaus” next month. Lottery Board grants A combined bowls, croquet and putting facility in Okuti, near Little River, is being supported by the Lottery Board with the granting of a $31,000 subsidy to the project. The Wharenui swimming pool in Christchurch is to be improved and the board has made a $30,000 grant. A $15,000 subsidy to the Hurunui County Council is to go towards the cost of adding to the Amberley Domain pavilion. The development of a swimming pool complex at Darfield is being supported with a $20,000 grant. Fellowship meets St John Ambulance’s Christchurch Retired Fellowship, which was formed early this year, held a wellattended gathering recently. The fellowship aims to foster friendship between former members of St John Ambulance. Support is given to sick former members. The 36 former members who attended the recent gathering in Christchurch had collectively given more than 950 years voluntary service to St John Ambulance.
