The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Ministers., answered .12 questions when Parliament resumed at 2 p.m. yesterday. Parliament then moved on to the .usual Wednesday general debate. After the debate Mr Noel Scott (Lab., Tongariro), chairman of the Education and Science Select Committee, presented the committee’s report on the 1988-89 estimates of expenditure for Vote: Scientific and Industrial Research. Mrs Judy Keall (Lab., Glenfield), chairman of the Social Services Select Committee, presented the committee’s report on estimates for Vote: Housing Corporation. Mr Harry Duynhovan
(Lab., New Plymouth) presented the Planning and Development Select, Committee’s reports on Vote: Energy, and Vote: Earthquake and War Damage. Members then began debating the third reading of the Hastings City Council (Rating Relief) Empowering Bill, a local bill. It was passed without division before the House went on to the third readings of the Dunedin City Council Endowment Lands and Dunedin City Council (St Clair Salt Water Pool) Land Vesting

Mr lan McLean (Nat., Tarawera) moved the introduction of the Crown Leases, Licences and Mortgages Protection Bill, a private member’s bill. Debate was interrupted when the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. Debate continued when the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. The bill’s introduction was defeated on a division, 40-31. Mr McLean then moved the introduction of the Bank of New Zealand (New Zealand Ownership) Bill, a private member’s bill. Debate was interrupted when Parliament rose at 10.30 p.m.
