P.S.A members hear wage proposals
About 1800 public servants attended meetings throughout Christchurch yesterday to discuss wageround strategy and hear proposals by Public Service Association and Combined Trade Union officials on the wage round. About 1600 workers attended a meeting at the Christchurch Town Hall, and a further 200 a meeting for Sunnyside and Templeton Hospital workers later in the day. The meeting drew staff from all Government departments such as Health, Workscorp, and Electricorp. Resolutions seeking greater involvement for workers in redundancy discussions under corporatisation were considered. The regional secretary of the Public Service Association, Mr John McKenzie, said it was not seeking a set figure for wages but requesting improved “industrial democracy” for workers.
