Soccer coaching clinics
One of the world’s foremost soccer coaches, Wiel Coerver, will visit New Zealand in December for two two-day coaching clinics.
Mr Coerver, who has coached Dutch and German first division sides, is currently coaching in Saudi Arabia and after his contract expires in May moves on to Brazil and then the United States. Two former Christchurch players, Gary and Simon Ireland; work in
liaison with Mr Coerver, who is recognised as one of the best coaches of technique anywhere in the world. “He is not just an academic,” said a New Zealand Football Association technical director, Terry Conley, of Christchurch. Mr Conley initiated the visit when he met the Ireland brothers in England last year. “This is a one-off visit. We want to have one session in the South Island
so it is important that we get enrolments now. If 80 per cent of the. applications come from Auckland then both 1 camps may have to be there.” The cost for each person is $2OO. “This won’t be repeated. He is wanted all over the world,” said Mr Conley. Only 30 places are available on each course. Mr Coerver will be accompanied by the former Chelsea star, Charlie Cooke, and Alf Gallustian, of “Football Today.”
