Western Hero shows talent
Western Hero, a five-year-old entire halfbrother to the former top pacers, Melton Monarch and Bolton Byrd, looks like making up for lost time with an impressive qualifying effort at the Addington trials yesterday.
A son of the successful Most Happy Fella sire, Smooth Fella, Western Hero led over the last 1700 m for trainer, Jim Dalgety, yesterday, sprinting in from the 800 m in 59.4 to score comfortably by two lengths. He took 3:13.7 for the full 2400 m.
Time honours over 2400 m went to Dryham Logan, a three-year-old brother to the former illfated youngster, Logan Dryham, which finished best from the third line to qualify ,in 3:12.6. Trained at Greenpark by Tom and Barry Clark, the Dryham Lea —Logan Cheval colt beat Party Boy (3g Lord Module—High Spirit) by half a length, the latter returning 3:12.7. The leaders battled over their last 400 m in 32.2.
The pacemaker, Brigandy (3c Trusty ScotMiss Patron), held third, qualifying in 3:12.9.
Other qualifiers over 2400 m were: Coringa Cavalier (3g Lordship— Venus De Milo) in 3:19; Prim And Proper (3f Soky’s Atom—Torcalette) in 3:13.4); Botticelli Angel (4m Sholty Imp—Lady Arwen) in 3:13.5; and Brave Queen (3f Brave Rebel—Canasta Queen) in 3:16.5.
Plumpton’s Pride (4g Lopez Hanover—Real Garrison) qualified over 2600 m from a stand in 3:32.2; while Queensland Lady (4m MidshipmanMother McKay) came with a strong finish to win the 2600 m mobile pacing qualifying heat in 3:25.5, beating Sail Ahoy (4g Honkin Andy—Quick Sail) in 3:25.6; and Monty’s Girl (3f Montini Bromac— Dainty Bromac) in 3:25.7. Jay Ar’s Pride (3g Clever Innocence—Lady’s Rule) was another .trotting qualifier for Robert Dunn, recording 3:42.1 for 2600 m.
