Soft and curvy ones could stay where they were while hairy ones were kicked out of bunks to work. From sea to land battles, one can discover the man responsible for changing nuts from something edible to an expression of disbelief. During the Second World War, General Anthony C. McAuliffe was in command of United States troops in Europe who became surrounded by
the German forces. Besieged and with soldiers dying all around him, the general knew that if he could hold his strategic position Nazi power would be seriously damaged. In reply to the German commander’s demand for surrender, he cabled one simple word — nuts! In case anyone wonders the outcome of this noble stand — the American troops held on until reinforcements arrived.
