Health workers seek review
A joint working party to review all aspects of the Canterbury Hospital Board and the Health Department was proposed at a health workers’ meeting in Christchurch. Delegates met to discuss their response to the recently announced cuts in hospital board funding. ' The meeting resolved to instruct the combined committee of officers of the Combined Trade Unions and the local Combined Health Employees’ Committee to approach the board with a proposal to establish a joint work-
ing party. The secretary of the Canterbury Hospital Workers’ Union, Ms Lianne Dalziel, said the concept of effectiveness studies was relatively new in New Zealand but had been successful in achieving savings in Australia. The object of the studies is to consult people who know the strengths and weaknesses of the system. “The delegates totally rejected the board’s decision to seek advice direct from heads of department, without any worker input,” Ms Dalziel said.
