Army opens Octagon

The American military has its Pentagon and as of yesterday the New Zealand Army could boast its Octagon. The new octagonal-shaped headquarters of the 2nd/ Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, at Burnham was officially opened at a ceremony attended by the Army’s highest ranking .officers,, alb former commanders of the battalion? . . The headquarters, built at a cost of $1.2 million, was constructed by engineers of 3 Field Squadron in 16 months. The building, clad in Oamaru stone, covers an area of 1288 sq m and provides 57 office and conference areas. Jt will be headquarters for the battalion and the logistic and support companies. . v;
