Recovery expected
The Treasury has told Parliament it expects some recovery out of the present recession, in terms of real gross domestic product, about the end of this year or early 1989. It told Parliament’s Finance and Expenditure Select Committee yesterday, in considering its annual estimates, there would always be indus-
tries or production sectors that were expanding or contracting out of phase with the movement in gross domestic product. Statistics Department figures showed that after a decline of 0.5 per cent, in total gross domestic product for the December, 1987, quarter there had been an increase of 0.6 per cent in the subsequent March quarter.
