‘Miss America’ aims high
NZPA-AP Atlantic City Newly-crowned “Miss America” Gretchen Elizabeth Carlson, a classical violinist and Stanford University student with hopes
of going to law school, said she planned to become a corporate executive. “I’m definitely an overachiever,” she said. “This wasn’t luck.”
Miss Carlson, aged 22, has been studying the violin for 17 years, winning national and state competitions and performing a solo with the Minnesota Orchestra.
