'Press' reporter selected for peace award
A reporter for “The Press,” Jane England, has been nominated and selected as a finalist in The New Zealand Media Peace Awards. The selection was made in recognition of articles on the Ngai Tahu land claim published since August, 1988. Ms England was commended earlier this year in the Cowan Memorial Prize for historical journalism, and won the Qantas Junior Feature Writer Award last year. The media peace awards have been organised by the New Zealand Foundation for Peace Studies to promote articles contributing to social equity and harmony. Other finalists included in the print section of the awards are Pat Booth for
an article on the Waitangi Tribunal published in “North and South,” Karen Mangnali and Fetuli loane for an article in the “Auckland Star” titled “What really happened in Otara,” and the Youth Focus Team at the "Evening Post” for a series written by school students. The winner will be announced during a ceremony at the Maidment Theatre, Auckland University, next Wednesday? The finalists will receive certificates. The presenter of the awards, Mr Edward Thompson, has a degree in history from the University of Cambridge, and has written many books on Britain's social history. He will be in New Zealand to present the annual Robb Lectures in Auckland.
