A group of farmers and helpers, who were rescuing sheep, are stranded by the rising Hurunui River near Culverden yesterday. They were later pulled out by bulldozer. In the cab is a farmer, Terry Bamford. Behind are his wife Maria (partly obscured), Dick Sharplin, manager of the Hurunui Hotel, and Bruce Williams (rear) of Culverden.
