Mr Denis Hazlett has been appointed general manager of Pyne, Gould Guinness Ltd, serving as chief executive of the stock and station company.
Mr Hazlett, aged 45, will take up his appointment during October. He brings with him more than 25 years experience in the New Zealand stock and station industry. He was formerly general manager and chief executive of the Christchurchbased Challenge Deer, Ltd.
Born in Southland and educated in Christchurch, Mr Hazlett joined Wright Stephenson and Company in 1961 as an office junior in Dunedin. He later moved to Outram and Palmerston as a stock agent. In 1966 he joined J. E. Watson and Company in Otautau as a stock agent and auctioneer, rejoining Wrightson in 1968. He served that company as a stock agent, fat-lamb buyer, and auctioneer in Clinton, Outram, Dunedin, and, Central Otago, before being appointed livestock manager and auctioneer in Feilding.
He returned to the South Island as Wrightson’s area manager in Timaru, a post he held until 1968, when he was appointed New Zealand
livestock manager for the company, operating from Christchurch. . With the creation of the Fletcher Challenge Rural Sector group of companies in September, 1987, Mr Hazlett was appointed general manager of Challenge Deer, the Christchurch-based national company responsible for all venison and velvet operations in New Zealand and overseas.
Mr R. D. Dewar remains managing director of Pyne, Gould Corporation with special emphasis on the group’s other activities in finance, trust, investment, and property.
