Propaganda wins race

New Zealand’s yacht Propaganda ■ emerged from the doldrums off the San Francisco coast to take a commanding lead in the One Ton Cup yachting series yesterday. Light airs plagued the 320-mile race with Propaganda completing the course after 65 hours' on the water and eight hours ahead of the next yacht, the Australian Gary Appleby’s Farr-designed Sagacious. The win gives Propaganda some 72.75 points, well clear of the nearest group, comprising Sagacious, the Norwegian yacht Fram X which finished third 11 hours behind Propaganda, and the American ' Pendragon which finished fourth. The other New Zealand yacht, Fair Share, was back in the field lying around fifteenth place. The next race, an Olympic event over 25 miles in San Francisco Bay, is scheduled for today.
