New forum for biologists
ADVANCES made in applied biology by British scientists are to be made available on a worldwide basis through a series of international seminars and publications.
An agreement has been reached between the Institute of Applied Biology, based at York University in northern England, and Springer-Verlag London, the British division of Springer International, the global publishing group, to disseminate information about the institute’s work
and results. Under the terms of the contract, the institute will hold two or three seminars a year on topics of outstanding contemporary importance in the field of applied biology and Springer will publish a volume on each of the seminars for international distribution.
“The aim of the seminars is to provide an international forum for the exchange of ideas between industrial and academic scientists,” said Dr Tony Ro-
bards, director of the Institute. He said the series would form a major part of the Institute’s international educational programme. The first seminar, on the physics, chemistry, structure and ultrastructure of foams, “Focus on Foams,” will be held from March 29 to 31 next year. The second, on inter-cellular communication in animals and plants, will take place in July next year. London Press Service
