Mandela making quick recovery

NZPA-Reuter Cape Town The Black nationalist leader, Nelson Mandela, is recovering from tuberculosis faster than expected, a South African doctor said yesterday. Doctor J. G. Strauss, superintendent of Cape Town’s Tygerberg hospital, said Mandela’s health was improving all the time. Mandela was sitting up in bed, reading newspapers and listening to the radio.

Mandela, jailed for life in 1964 for plotting to overthrow white rule, was transferred to hospital from Cape Town’s high security Pollsmoor prison on August 12 for treatment of fluid on the lung.
