Clerical union wants summit
By 1 rnr
RICHARD CRESSWELL
The Government should call an urgent summit conference of unions, employers and the Government, said the secretary of the Canterbury Clerical Workers’ Union, Mr Leon Morel, yesterday.
There was a need to reach an accord on wages
and employment, he said. “Such an accord has been reached in Australia and it proved to be an effective agreement.” Australian Budget announcements had shown
uuunuenienis nau snown just how successful the system had been, said Mr Morel. Unemployment figures did not accurately spell out the actual number of
unemployed. There were those unemployed but unable to receive the' benefit, those on special schemes, job creation and Access, as well as those who had not bothered to register. “There are tens of thousands of unemployed who have gone overseas to find work as well,” he said.
