Women dominate committee
PA Auckland A women-dominated committee will be set up by the Auckland Hospital Board to monitor the implementing of the cervical cancer inquiry’s recommendations. The special ad-hoc committee will be made up of three board members and three members, chosen after talks with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, National Council of Women and Maori Women’s Welfare League. The board chairman, Sir Frank Rutter, ruled himself, and fellow members Mr Alan Howes and Sir William Manchester, out of the committee. “It would be inappropriate for any medical doctor from the board to be included,’’ he said at thefinance and general purposes committee meeting yesterday. Sir Frank’s recommendations of Mr Peter Davis, Ms Judith Bassett and Ms Sue Greenstreet to represent the board on the committee was approved. The committee proposal will go forward to the full board meeting on Monday for approval. The committee will initially run for a 12-month term.
