Leeza Gibbons to promote S.I.
Leeza Gibbons will soon loom large on New Zealand television screens encouraging North Islanders to visit the South Island. The bubbly “Entertainment This Week” host stars in two 30-second television commercials aimed at encouraging North Islanders to visit the South. Local body members and tourist industry representatives were given a sneak preview of the commercials in Christchurch yesterday by the campaign organiser, the South Island Promotion Association. The association’s chief executive, Mr Denis Gilmour, said Ms Gibbons had been surprised the tourist industry had trouble attracting North Islanders to the South Island. “She could not believe that New Zealanders did not go on holiday in their own back yard.” A declaration will be presented to the Minister of Tourism, Mr Goff, in
Parliament tomorrow throwing out the challenge to the, North Island. It has been signed by up to 250 people from 73 South Island local bodies, as well as those in the tourist industry and in business. The campaign by the association aimed for a 5 per cent growth in domestic tourism, Mr Gilmour said.
