SIBERIAN COSSACKS ON TOUR
The Siberian Cossacks are returning to Christchurch for a four-night season. The company is young by Russian standards, formed in 1960. It num-
bers 70. The performers are chosen not only for their dancing talent but also their physical beauty. The group, under its leader Mikhail Godenko,
has toured the United States, France and Belgium. It won first prize and Grand Gold Medal at the International Dance Festival in Europe. The company, which is based in Krasnoyarsk,
3000 miles from Moscow, will travel with 1000 hand-made costumes in specially built touring luggage. Their programme combines Russian waltzes with the leaps and jumps audi-
ences expect of Russian companies. The New Zealand tour will begin on September 23. The dancers will be at the Christchurch Town Hall from September 25 to 28.
