Show has 12 Emmy nominations
The top-rating comedy, “The Golden Girls” (8 p.m. on One), looks set to win more accolades at the American television event of the year — The Fortieth Emmy Awards (screening Monday August 29 at 10 p.m. on Two). The programme has clocked up 12 nominations
— a total beaten only by “L.A. Law,” which has 19, and equalled by the fan-tasy-drama “Beauty and the Beast.” Three of the programme’s wisecracking Southern belles, Rue McClanahan (Blanche), Bea Arthur (Dorothy) and Betty White (Rose) are
nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the third year in a row. The award was carried off by Rue McClanahan last year. Not to be outdone, Estelle Getty, who plays Bea’s .feisty mother Sophia, is among the finalists for the Outstanding
Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series title. The programme is also in the running for the Outstanding Comedy Series award. Dubbed “Miami Nice” by American critics, “The Golden Girls” has been a consistent high-rater since its 1985 debut.
